This Onsite Electrical Safety Policy is designed for use by Bell Stainless employees, subcontractors and contract labour working on a residential or commercial building site

The purpose of the Onsite Electrical Safety Policy is to clearly define the strategies, systems and responsibilities for effectively managing safety and health for our employees, subcontractors and contract labour

The development of this Policy has drawn on the knowledge of experienced trades personnel to ensure practical application of occupational safety and health requirements without relying completely on the compitancy of electrical contractors for the safety and health for our employees, subcontractors and contract labour

Bell Stainless' primary objective is to create an environment which ensures the safety, health and welfare of all personnel associated with Bell Stainless activities. This will be achieved through the provision of resources, training and demonstrated commitment to approved policies

Our aim is to have no accidents and injuries

Policy guidelines:

• installation of stainless steel benchtops or splashbacks by Bell Stainless staff where wiring must protrude through the stainless or where it is unsafe to do so while power is present can not proceed if powerpoints are not removed and wiring is not made safe;

• only qualified electrical contractors are to disconnect or re-connect electrical wiring. Bell Stainless doesn’t employ electrical contractors. They must be contracted separately;

• all powerpoints / bare wires must be checked by a tradesman with an induction testing light to ensure the power has been switched off. Apprentices are not to undertake this task

• if power to the powerpoints is still live, notify the owner / builder and halt work until it’s been rectified by a qualified electrical contractor;

• all bare wires must be terminated to prevent electrical shock if the power is turned back on accidentally while work is being carried out;

• any movement of bare wires must not be attempted by Bell Stainless employees, subcontractors and contract labour personel. It must be made safe by a qualified electician before any work is to be carried out. It is not the resposibility of Bell Stainless staff to organise these works

Residential sites:

• switch off power to the work area at the main switch board;

• check all powerpoints in the work area with an induction testing light (tradesmen only) to ensure the power has been switched off;

• advise the home owner when works are completed and power can be switched back on

Commercial sites:

• confirm with site supervisor that the power is off and will remain off for the duration of the works being undertaken;

• check all powerpoints in the work area with an induction testing light to ensure the power has been switched off;

• advise the supervisor when works are completed and power can be switched back on
